Electric Bicycle

This is an Electric Bicycle "e-bike".  They are becoming the most popular vehicle in China.  They come in a huge variety if shapes and sizes, some with pedals, most without.  An 8 hour charge will take you about 100 km.  They only have one downside, they are TOTALLY silent.  Fortunately due to the reliability of PCHN we know these things will never make it in Nigeria, because the one upside of Okada is you can hear them coming.  Nigerians on silent motorcycles is a scary thought.

Have to love China

Because of the 2010 Expo China has clamped down even further on internet access.  That essentially means the 70 million people they expect to visit will not be able to tell the world about what they have experienced.  That is so very Chinese.

What were they trying to say?

This is the slogan printed on one of the electric bikes that are so popular here.  (I will do  a whole post on those things later).

Just for the record I asked on of our office support staff what they were trying to say, she had no idea.  The Chinese characters translate roughly into "Ocean Breeze"

Let me introduce my crew

Meet Lenny and Ganguly, my crew.  The smiling guy in the middle is one of the foremen for the Chinese building the bridge.  In his had is one of the precision high quality tools custom fabricated for this work.  We be having fun.

Where is John?

When I left I understood I was going to Shanghai.  Shanghai is a modern metropolitan city with a very Chinese spin on things.  I am not in Shanghai, I am on Changxing Dao, and island in the Yangtze river.  With the exception of being in China and populated with Chinese Changxing Dao is the binary NOT of Shanghai.  Where I am you see these driving down the street every day:

That pretty much redefines the concept of "hoop-de".  China is a different place to be sure.

Okay damn it

I had to do some small things that I believe are technically illegal here, but now I get to post pictures and such...  So please just enjoy the posts, don't say bad things about China (because I do eventually want to come home), and enjoy the posts.
